Baby A Turns 2!
Happy Day, Baby A! Happy Day….that is what Baby A would tell you on your birthday! Several times per day, in her best high-pitched voice, she yells “Happy Day!”. If only everyone has a Happy Day every day like Baby A! Today is a special Happy Day to celebrate. Baby A turns 2!
I really cannot believe it. I remember thinking when I picked her up at Children’s Hospital that I would maybe have her a few months, maybe 6 at the most. I never in my wildest dreams imagined I would have her almost 2 years later. So much has happened in that time but the most fun of all has been watching Baby A grow from a 5 lb. 5 oz, 2 ½ month old baby to a 25 lb, 2 year old toddler.
Just last week when I picked her up at daycare the teacher said “it’s amazing how much she has grown and learned”. She LOVES singing. Every night when she goes to bed, she lies in bed and sings to whatever songs are playing on "Alexa." If she is still awake when "Alexa" stops, she sings whatever she is in the mood for! Her favorite song is “Na Na Na Na Hey Hey-ey Goodbye”. If you haven’t ever asked "Alexa" to play nursery rhymes you should! Because I don’t know what algorithms they use after they run out of nursery rhymes to play, but the music list is fantastic but definitely not nursery rhymes! The rap songs maybe I can get because they kind of rhyme, but some of the other music that is played, I have no idea how it ended up on a nursery rhyme list! She loves playing ring around the rosie, playing with her friends, getting piggyback rides, eating, going down the slide on her stomach and trying to ride the dog and so much more. She is the messiest eater I have ever seen in my entire life and I have seen a LOT of messy eaters, young and old! The other day she was throwing her riced cauliflower by the handful over her shoulder and then proceeded to dump it on her head. My favorite part of the day is when I pick her up at daycare. I am pretty sure no one else has ever been that excited to see me, not even my dogs! Every day she is saying new words. She repeats EVERYTHING, so no saying any bad words! She loves the ocean. In July we went to Bethany Beach in Delaware and a few weeks ago we went to Ocean City, NJ with her sister and her foster family. She had so much fun and loved riding the rides at the amusement parks on the boardwalk. Kennywood is definitely on the list of places to go next year as long as we won’t have to wear masks! We attempted dance lessons. That was a disaster, but she looked super cute. She just started soccer and that was SO much better! Thank you, Becca, for going with us! I would have been lost without you.
Foster care is a roller coaster of a journey for sure, but I could never imagine not having Baby A on my journey with me! This is quite an extended birthday celebration. Today we will celebrate with my family, tomorrow we will celebrate with her birth parents and sister and the celebration continues into October when we will have a little party for family and friends.
It has been a while since I have written. It feels good to write again. Thank you Stacy for the inspiration for this post about Baby A’s birthday. Hopefully this post didn’t make you cry!
My gram always used to tell me that the older you get the faster time goes. She couldn’t be more right. It’s hard to believe we are 6 months into the pandemic. I remember in March thinking we would be dealing with it for a month or 2. I couldn’t have been more wrong. I miss a routine, I miss seeing all of my friends, I miss taking Baby A to do things now that she is getting a little older and can enjoy more things. Last week, I had 2 days in a row that I had meetings outside of my house. I got showered, fixed my hair, put normal clothes on…I even wore heels! Don’t get too carried away, I still didn’t wear any makeup! Celebrating a birthday during a pandemic isn’t quite the same, but we will still find many ways to celebrate the birth of Baby A!
So, here’s to Baby A! Happy Day! And here’s to all of you! I hope all of you are staying safe and healthy!
